just a little teaser of what new york food is all about...

Ok folks, this post is simply a teaser. Not a 'full' post featuring one particular restaurant of any kind, but wanted to share some photos of oh maybe 40% of what I've eaten so far in a month? Yes, I've went up a size in pants I think (thank goodness for leggings!), can feel the double chin forming, and having a hard time zipping up my winter coat.  Let me tell you, even with all the walking that I do here in NY, I think I need to add another form of exercise to maintain my eating habits, haha. No joke.  Well, a girls gotta do her 'due diligence' with food research right?

I've had some amazing meals with good friends showing me around town so far.  Trying to figure out if it's a good thing that I have friends that love food more than me, or if this will only increase the sensitivity of my palate so that I will have zero tolerance to anything bad.  Well, I'm blessed either way~

Note-no Korean restaurants are featured on this post as I would like to feature them one by one...I won't let you wait too long~

If you're in Seoul, you will quickly notice the number of Italian restaurants everywhere. Most western dining experience in Seoul includes pasta and pizza.  Okay, I stopped asking myself why...the the first few months of my arrival, haha. Do Koreans really love their noodles and cheese or what?  However, with this said not every place that serves Italian does it well. After being disappointed countless of times, I started making/eating Italian at home. Then you might find a few good restaurants ones here and there...

pizzeria d'buzza

I think this may be one of those posts that my friends have been waiting for.  I have to admit that I was kind of holding back a little because I wanted to savor this pizzeria to my self. Ok, maybe with a few others. Although I did recommend this spot to other folks in media, food bloggers and close friends. It came to a point where if I don't share this place with my readers, it would just be unfair. Really.

I stumbled upon this pizzeria in Hannam-dong last fall, recommended by another chef.  The moment I sat down I fell in love with the quaint interior, and my expectations slowly arose.  As I thumbed through the menu, my hunger got stronger.  Then, when I noticed that there were no English mistakes on the menu, I was sold! Hahaha. For those who live in Seoul, you will so understand.  My first visit, I fell in love with their calzone and their prosciutto/rucola pizza.  Their pizza reminds me of my favorite Neapolitan pizzeria in Chicago-Spacca Napoli.  The thin, slightly burnt crispy crust with the utmost fresh ingredients. This is it guys. Seriously. You may just want to 'stop all pizza research' here!

o kitchen

“What you want is to make things personal. Might not be spectacular, but from there you can say it’s mine.  Personal doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just personal.  It’s memorable to you.  Your identity:  who you are, where you were, where you have been.  Everything connects to everything.”

Susumu Yonaguni’s words as I have an afternoon chat over pasta and wine.

This space in a hanok (Korean traditional house) converted to a restaurant, has an energy that words cannot define.  Upon entering, you immediately feel like you want to take off your shoes…like entering your own house.  There is no host, or a manager with a suit, but a chef that will guide you to your table with a smile.

First impression? Hmm…definitely something different.  As you finger through the menu, you will soon notice that there is no front of the house staff! Well, the usual servers with matching uniforms, aprons, or name tags (as this is the common standard in Korea) are no where to be found.  The back of the house runs the show…yup...everything from the kitchen to the main floor…creating dishes, washing dishes, to pouring wine and greeting customers.  I think I would say this is a first of its kind in Seoul, and my excitement grew even before I started on the wine…
